Coaches’ Talking Points

  1. Introductions

    1. The coaching staff this year will be the same as last year:

      1. Varsity: Jim McBee (Head Coach), Ted Donnelly, Dave Jones, Jay Rissling

      2. JV: Andrew Pippen (Head Coach), Jared Young, Scott Monks

    2. Nichol McBee is the program manager for both Varsity and JV.

  2. We are looking to have an additional 3 or more games for both varsity and JV in addition to the 10 varsity conference games and up to 5-7 conference plus an additional 2-3 (not yet confirmed) non-league JV games.

  3. Most practices and games will be on Mondays (starting at 4:40) and Fridays with little to no impact on club team schedules. We are coordinating with TI U18, U16, and U14 to further reduce overlap. 

    1. Schedule blackout dates/holidays: Club hockey commitments: We have harmonized the potential HarCo game schedule with known tournament weekends (e.g., Martin Luther King weekend) and the TI schedules for 14U, 16U, and 18U to avoid as many game scheduling conflicts as possible.

  4. Varsity is coached to win games and we will put our best team out on the ice. JV is development and all players will play and the lines are rolled.

    1. Benches may be shortened at times

    2. Coach Pippen handles making JV lines and the game day decisions for JV. Goalies will depend on how many we have for JV.

    3. Varsity and JV goalie strategy (6 goalies); For JV, games 2 goalies will play half of each game. For Varsity, a starting goalie and a back up goalie will be scheduled with the starting goalie expected to play entire game. A goalie rotation schedule will be provided in October prior to the start of the league game schedule.

  5. Practice will start on September 14th, the first Monday after Labor Day. Our early practices will be used to get an idea of varsity and JV rosters. Practices are combined Varsity/JV to help grow the program as whole.

  6. Let coach know if playing a fall sport that will impact availability at practices in September and October.

  7. We will be using TeamSnap and players are expected to use the app to check in for practices and games. If a player is coming off a showcase weekend and is worn out, they are still expected to be at practice, but, they should let the coaches know how they are feeling and we will take care of them to not put them in jeopardy.

  8. We prefer white helmets, but, if they don’t have one, black is ok too.

  9. Neck guards are required per USA hockey and all 2008 & 2009 players must take SafeSport (USA Hockey): USA Hockey Safe Sport Program (no cost for players to certify)

  10. On game days, we ask that you wear HarCo "swag" as opposed to shirt and tie to school that day. However, shirt/tie will be required for arrival to the rink for each game.

  11. Academic eligibility: Players must maintain at minimum GPA of 2.0 and no more than 1 failing grade (E) to be rostered for game play. Report cards are collected after the first quarter of the school year. If a player becomes academically eligible by the interim report of the second quarter, they can resume game play. If the team qualifies for MSHL playoffs, second quarter report cards will be collected to confirm roster eligibility.

  12. Alumni game will be Friday 12/18/26

  13. Senior night will tentatively be 2/5/27

Manager’s Talking Points

  2. Game day uniforms will be ordered the end of June based on the information on the registration form. Please complete registration form by June 30 to be included in the order.

  3. New players will need to purchase practice jerseys as players will keep these jerseys. We advise ordering large or extra-large as the medium was cut small.

  4. Swag

    1. The swag store will be opened in September for ordering.

  5. Media Day! Included in your tuition is a photography session that will occur during a practice day/time with digital downloads available to you at no cost. Prints/products will be available from the photographer for purchase. Team and individual action/head shots will be used for senior night banners and social media posting.

  6. Volunteers

    1. Game day volunteers for clock, gamesheet, penalty box, music will be assigned via TeamSnap

    2. Volunteers welcome to support

      1. Photography (black bear TV will be used for video)

      2. Fundraising

      3. Senior night

  7. Tuition payments

    1. $300 due upon registration (due by June 30)

    2. Remaining $700 payable in full or via payment plan with final payments due in November 2026

  8. Documents

    1. All (returning and new): completed registration form

    2. All (returning and new): USA Hockey registration for 26-27 season

    3. All (returning and new) that are birth year 2009 or older: SafeSport certification

    4. New players: birth certificate
